STATEMENT OF PURPOSE

SI VIS ARTEM, PARA BELLUM

The purpose of the art militia is to be an open paramilitary organization with artistic intent, a framework for self-organizing, social bonding, DIY ballistic experimentation as well as individual and collective art production.

Individual units, usually commanded by the founder of that particular unit, are autonomous and shall be entirely composed of volunteers. The units within the militia voluntarily subject themselves to some basic aesthetic and organizational guidelines.

Anyone can found a new unit of the art militia. The first to recruit in a particular area, city or district will in effect become the founder and commander of a new unit.

All units are entirely independent, but can agree to combine subject to the highest ranking officer of the units, forming larger units.

Officership and its authority represent responsibility, not absolute authority. The creative process of any unit should be subject to discussion within the entire unit. The role of the leader is to structure the combined efforts of the members, not dictate the mode of expression.

Any disputes within a unit should be resolved by voting. This could mean replacing the head of the unit(s) or other officers. However, such votes shall never be held during active operations or training, but under resting conditions.
